Creating a screen shot on your computer allows you to capture the visual information on your computer screen, to save the picture and to manipulate and share the saved image. You may create screen shots when performing basic tasks on your computer and while using many different types of programs, including games, Web browsers, and some videos. Microsoft Paint, included with all Windows editions, allows you to easily capture and save screen shots.

Instructions

  1. Press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard when you are ready to capture the screen. (Hold down the "Alt" button while pressing the "Print Screen" button if you wish to create a screen shot of just a window instead of the entire desktop.)
  2. Click on "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories" and "Paint" or "Microsoft Paint."
  3. Click on the "Edit" menu and then select "Paste."
  4. Click on "File," then "Save." Type a name for your saved file, then select the format in which you wish to save the file. Click "Save."
